Al-Qaeda ‘kingpin’ escapes, admits US
`One of the most significant al-Qaeda members ever captured in Southeast Asia has escaped from a maximum-security US airbase in Afghanistan in a massive “breach of security”.
Omar al-Farouq, who was a lieutenant of Osama Bin Laden and who named Abu Bakar Bashir as the leader of Jemaah Islamiah in Indonesia, is on the run and believed to have returned to the safety of his people on the Afghan/Pakistan border.
News of the escape was confirmed as Indonesia denied an automatic remission for Abu Bakar Bashir, prompting outrage from Muslims who have accused the Indonesian Government of pandering to Western influence.’
