`A small airplane apparently took a nose-dive into a tank of raw sewage near Gilroy on Monday afternoon.
Gilroy police Sgt. Kurt Svardal said authorities have no idea where the plane was from or where it was going. The aircraft came pretty much straight down into a holding tank filled with raw sewage at a sewage treatment facility, he said, adding that it was too dangerous for a dive team to go into the water and check for bodies or the tail number of the plane, which would indicate who owned it and where it was from.’
`In the last year alone, some eight million units of toys were recalled in the U.S., according to W.A.T.C.H., a toy-safety advocacy group. But Kool Toys and Polly Pockets are kids’ stuff compared to the hazardous baubles of yesteryear. In the spirit of the holidays, Radar presents the 10 most dangerous toys of all time, those treasured playthings that drew blood, chewed digits, took out eyes, and, in one case, actually irradiated. To keep things interesting, we excluded BB guns, slingshots, throwing stars, and anything else actually intended to inflict harm.’
This is a pretty funny prank. These people are really freaked out. It might be a little bit mean. 🙂

`Hollywood director Oliver Stone has shocked a celebrity crowd with an off-colour joke about the murders of five suspected sex workers in eastern England, as it was reported women’s clothing had been found near where some of the bodies had been dumped. [..]
The discovery of so many victims in so few days has raised fears another “Ripper” targeting prostitutes is on the loose.
That climate led Stone to quip to the British Comedy Awards audience in London: “It’s great to be back in England. I feel like Jack The Ripper days are back. Nothing ever changes here.”
The stunned crowd responded with jeers, gasps and boos, with one audience member quoted as saying the remark was in “unbelievably bad taste”.’
`A man killed himself by ramming a carving knife into his skull with a homemade ‘guillotine’.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the man died as a result of his head injury.’
`Gov. Jeb Bush suspended executions in Florida after a medical examiner said Friday that prison officials botched the insertion of the needles when a convicted killer was put to death earlier this week.
Separately, a federal judge in California imposed a moratorium on executions in the nation’s most populous state, declaring that the state’s method of lethal injection runs the risk of violating the constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment.
U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel ruled in San Jose that California’s “implementation of lethal injection is broken.” But he said: “It can be fixed.”
Fogel said the case raised the question of whether a three-drug cocktail administered by the San Quentin State Prison is so painful that it “offends” the Eighth Amendment ban on cruel and unusual punishment.’
‘Australia hasn’t witnessed a single mass shooting since a massacre 10 years ago prompted nationwide gun law reforms, according to a study Thursday that linked the tough laws with a dramatic reduction in firearm deaths. [..]
The study found the buyback coincided with an end to mass shootings and dramatic decreases in shooting deaths in Australia.
“The Australian example provides evidence that removing large numbers of firearms from a community can be associated with a sudden and ongoing decline in mass shootings and accelerated declines in total firearms-related deaths, firearm homicides and firearm suicides,” the report concluded.’
Seems obvious, really. 🙂
`A massive manhunt is under way for the serial killer thought to be responsible for the “unprecedented” murders of five prostitutes.
Suffolk police was calling in help from other forces as it deals with the biggest inquiry in its history – the hunt for the so-called Ipswich Ripper.
Two more bodies were discovered on Tuesday, which police say are likely to be those of Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls. Both women had been reported missing. The bodies were discovered near Levington, a village to the south of Ipswich and just a few miles from Suffolk police headquarters.’
Seems to be killing a prostitute every other day, which seems to be much more frequently than serial killers usually kill people.
`That was what worried her co-workers at Accelerated Solutions in Franklin. It was the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and the 35-year-old health-care claims adjuster hadn’t showed up for work in two days.
It wasn’t like Tracy to miss work, and on those rare occasions that she took a sick day, she always called in to explain.
After repeated calls to her apartment went unanswered, her co-workers called her family. They were the ones who found her dead in her home, apparently of natural causes.
It took them another week to find the other three bodies.’

`Healthy new-born babies may have been killed in Ukraine to feed a flourishing international trade in stem cells, evidence obtained by the BBC suggests.
Disturbing video footage of post-mortem examinations on dismembered tiny bodies raises serious questions about what happened to them. [..]
A senior British forensic pathologist says he is very concerned to see bodies in pieces – as that is not standard post-mortem practice.
It could possibly be a result of harvesting stem cells from bone marrow.’
`The gunman who fatally shot three people in a law firm’s high-rise office before he was killed by police felt cheated over an invention, authorities said Saturday. [..]
Jackson, 59, told witnesses before he was shot that he had been cheated over a toilet he had invented for use in trucks, Police Superintendent Phil Cline said Saturday.
He was holding a hostage at gunpoint Friday when SWAT officers shot him from about 45 yards away, Cline said earlier. There were no negotiations and the hostage was unharmed, police said.’
`On Aug. 27, 1979, two parallel lines of 11 men formed on a field of dry dirt in Sanandaj, Iran. One group wore blindfolds. The other held rifles. The command came in Farsi to fire: “Atesh!” Behind the soldier farthest to the right, a 12th man also shot, his Nikon camera and Kodak film preserving in black and white a mass execution.

`A man who burned a dog to death in the oven of a house he was robbing has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, a prosecutor said.
Alexander Davis, 20, received a five-year sentence for aggravated animal cruelty and 10 years for burglary, Chatham County Assistant District Attorney Melanie Higgins said.

`The investigation into the death of a baby who authorities believe was heated in a microwave oven was difficult because of a lack of research on the effect of microwaves on people, a coroner’s official said.
China Arnold, 26, was jailed Monday on a charge of aggravated murder, more than a year after she brought her dead month-old baby to a hospital on Aug. 30, 2005, police said.

`Bryan James Hathaway, 20, of Superior, was arrested on “a misdemeanour charge of sexual gratification with an animal” after indulging in intercourse with said deceased deer on 11 October.
His attorney, public defender Fredric Anderson, last week filed a motion with a Douglas County court which argued “because the deer was dead, it was not considered an animal and the charge should be dismissed”. He wrote: “The statute does not prohibit one from having sex with a carcass.” [..]
Judge Lucci summed the matter up concisely with: “I’m a little surprised this issue hasn’t been tackled before in another case.” He then promised to render a decision before Hathaway’s next court appearance on 1 December.’
