‘A “trophy” video appearing to show security guards in Baghdad randomly shooting Iraqi civilians has sparked two investigations after it was posted on the internet, the Sunday Telegraph can reveal.

The video has sparked concern that private security companies, which are not subject to any form of regulation either in Britain or in Iraq, could be responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent Iraqis.

The video, which first appeared on a website that has been linked unofficially to Aegis Defence Services, contained four separate clips, in which security guards open fire with automatic rifles at civilian cars. All of the shooting incidents apparently took place on “route Irish”, a road that links the airport to Baghdad.’

Nothing particularly gory. Grainy black and white footage of some guy wearing some strange looking thing hesitating for a few minutes before leaping off the tower and experiencing a rapid acceleration towards the ground. The parachute coat doesn’t appear to have any effect whatsoever on his descent.

`A Melbourne resident has fought back against two armed intruders, killing one with a sword he seized from his attackers, police said.

A second intruder fled with cuts to his hands and legs after the attempted armed burglary in Melbourne’s south-east early today. [..]

‘The murder of a tramp was successfully solved in Russia’s southern port city of Novorossiisk after police discovered the victim’s penis on the person of the murderer. He had cut it off and kept it as a trophy, Russian news agency Regnum reported on Tuesday.

The ongoing, underreporting of the dead in Iraq, is not accurate. The DoD is deliberately reducing the figures. A review of many foreign news sites show that actual deaths are far higher than the newly reduced ones. Iraqi civilian casualties are never reported but International Red Cross, Red Crescent and UN figures indicate that as of 1 January 2005, the numbers are just under 100,000.’

Followup to the Bruce Pastuer Murder Thread post. I finally bothered to look a bit more into it. Shoulda done it in the first place, but I’m lazy and I don’t really care that much. 🙂

Some guy called Bruce loses his mind over an argument in an internet forum. Shoots two people who insulted him then goes on the run. Keeps posting on the forum with wireless net access whilst on the run.

`A huge explosion at an oil refinery in Texas has killed at least 14 and injured more than 70.

The blast took place at a facility owned by British-owned company BP in Texas City. [..]
