`The U.S. Embassy in Athens was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade Friday morning, said top metropolitan police officer Asimakis Golfis.
U.S. Ambassador Charles Ries said the explosion injured no one and caused minimal damage, but was still being treated as a “very serious attack.”
The entire compound in downtown Athens is a crime scene, he told reporters.
Greek counterterrorism authorities and U.S. officials are working to uncover who is behind the attack, Ries said.’
‘Simple physics, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Thats why you dont hold the butt of a shotgun close to your face when shooting. The same is also true for less powerful objects like this potato gun launcher.’

`Salvador Celaya, a 73-year-old with Alzheimer’s disease, wore black rubber boots, dirty blue jeans and a flannel shirt Friday as he rummaged through the charred remains of the Phoenix home where he and his wife raised six children. [..]
The future for Salvador Celaya and his 69-year-old wife, Carlota, was uncertain two days after police serving a search warrant pried open the front door and launched a diversionary grenade through a bedroom window that started a fire that destroyed the house. [..]
“This is not a botched search warrant,” said Gilbert police spokesman Lt. Joe Ruet. “It’s not the wrong house, and it’s a very serious criminal that we’re after.”’
I like how he starts to scream about it burning as soon as it’s lit. 🙂
‘A couple of guys get some 2 liter bottles, bricks, and dry ice and create some pretty impressive dry ice bombs. Check out the last explosion. I have built one or two of these and never saw one blow up like the last one in the video.’

`A watchdog group charges a nuclear warhead nearly exploded in Texas when it was being dismantled at the government’s Pantex facility near Amarillo.
The Project on Government Oversight says it has been told by knowledgeable experts that the warhead nearly detonated in 2005 because an unsafe amount of pressure was applied while it was being disassembled, The Austin American-Statesman reports.
The U.S. Energy Department fined the plant’s operators $110,000 last month. [..]
The watchdog group says the problem was caused in part by technicians at the plant being required to work up to 72 hours each week.’
`Everything on the desk was blackened with soot and burned either partially or completely. Three external hard drives, a digital camera, videotapes, papers, CD’s, etc. The floor, wall, and radiator cover were burned, along with the tabletop.
Every cable that was connected to the laptop, Ethernet, Firewire, Power, and USB, was forcibly shot out of each portal, and each portal covered with the black soot. Metal bits and electronic debris from the power cable hub and other cables was scattered around the room and some wires had split apart into copper shreds. Molten silver metal flecks are still lodged in the windowsill.
A supervisor arrived later that day and after surveying the scene and materials, conceded that their company had caused the accident. He noted, in particular, the internally fried coaxial cable.’
‘The Enschede fireworks disaster, called Vuurwerkramp (Dutch: literally, “fireworks disaster”), was caused by a fire which broke out in the SE Fireworks depôt on May 13, 2000 in the eastern Dutch city of Enschede. The fire led to an enormous explosion that left 23 people dead (including four firemen) and 947 injured. The biggest blast was heard as far as 60 kilometres from the scene. About 2000 homes were damaged or destroyed, leaving 1250 people homeless. The extent of the damage was estimated at half a billion euros.’
The first video has been around before, but the second Enschede video I hadn’t seen before. Fucking crazy.

`An Illinois man plotted to set off hand grenades at a Chicago-area shopping mall in a holiday season terror campaign that was thwarted by federal investigators. According to an FBI affidavit, Derrick Shareef, 22, told a confidential source that he wanted to “commit violent acts of jihad,” and spoke of killing judges and blowing up public buildings. A copy of the affidavit can be found below. Shareef told the snitch that he sought “to disrupt Christmas,” adding that, “I swear by Allah man, I’m down for it too, I’m down for the cause, I’m down to live for the cause and die for the cause, man.”‘
`A house owned by Drake University has sustained some $50,000 damage in a bottle rocket war.
Four young men have been charged with reckless use of fire, a serious misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail.
“They were playing around with fireworks like a lot of the rest of us have done at one time or another,” said Des Moines Police Detective Jack Kamerick. “They are all good kids. But if you’re going to have a bottle rocket war it would be a lot better to do it outside. It would still be illegal but at least you wouldn’t burn up a house.”‘
`Prosecutors in the Madrid train bombing case will seek prison terms of about 38,000 years for each of the seven prime defendants in the trial due to start next February, according to a prosecution order released Monday and viewed by CNN. [..]
The sentences sought were calculated based on murder charges against the seven prime defendants for each of the 191 people who died in the attacks on Madrid commuter trains on March 11, 2004, and also for the attempted murders of the 1,824 others who were wounded, the 232-page prosecution order said.
The trial is expected to last for months. The defendants — if convicted of all the charges — would serve only a maximum of 40 years in prison, under Spanish law, which prohibits the death penalty, the prosecution said.’
