This man has a memory of between 7 and 30 seconds and recognizes nothing but his wife. Because he has no awareness of things that have happened in the past he is constantly operating under the assumption that he has just awoken from a period of unconsciousness and hasn’t had a single thought in 20 years.
Also, every time he sees his wife he thinks it’s the first time he’s seen her in years.

`The Defence Department is investigating why a rocket launcher was found by a man at a rubbish tip in central Queensland.
James Maloney said he bought the rocket launcher for $2 at the recycling centre for the tip at Yeppoon, near Rockhampton.
“I work in the local theatre restaurant and wanted to use it as a stage prop,” Mr Maloney said.
“But I read in the local paper about the army misplacing rocket launchers and they were worried about them getting in the hands of terrorists, so I thought it might be a good idea I gave it back to the authorities.’

`A woman attacked a man in his genitals during a Christmas party, injuring him badly enough that he needed 50 stitches, authorities said Friday. Rebecca Arnold Dawson, 34, was charged with malicious castration in a fight early Tuesday at a party hosted by the 38-year-old man’s girlfriend, police said.
All three were heavily intoxicated, police Chief Frank Powers said.
Dawson is accused of grabbing the man’s genitals. Police said a weapon was not used. He declined to elaborate.
“I believe he needed more than 50 stitches to repair the damage, but he is back home at this point,” police Cpl. Brad Stevens said. “All we can tell you is that the injury was done with her hands.”‘
`Robert Hale, a Bible-toting father of 15 who calls himself Papa Pilgrim, became an anti-government celebrity in Alaska by driving a bulldozer across a national park that encircles his land.
The Lord told him that using the bulldozer to clear 14 miles of derelict road through the park was a loving thing to do, Hale said in an interview three years ago.
In 2003, Robert Hale, also known as Papa Pilgrim, invited reporters to his Alaska ranch to discuss his battle with the U.S. government over access to his land inside a national park.
“In order for me to love my children, I have to be a provider,” Hale said then, explaining that he needed the bulldozer to fetch supplies for his children, whom he and his wife were home-schooling in an ultra-strict Christian way.
He said his children read only the Bible, always bathed with their clothes on and were not allowed to see one another naked.’

`A hungry 10-year-old girl from India’s lowest Hindu caste had all the fingers of her right hand chopped off by an upper-caste landowner for taking a few spinach leaves from his field, the Hindustan Times reported today.
The attack took place in a village in Bhagalpur district last week in impoverished Bihar state in the east where caste prejudice against Dalits – formerly called “untouchables” – is widespread and sometimes results in violence against them.
Police in Bhagalpur, in eastern Bihar, said they would soon arrest the upper-caste landowner who used a sickle to wound the girl whose name was given as Khushboo.
“We will get results. This is terrible,” said police superintendent J. S. Gangwar, quoted by the newspaper.’
`BRITISH forces have killed seven gunmen and blown up the headquarters of the police serious crimes unit in southern Basra in a raid to rescue prisoners who were about to be killed, the British military said.
Calling the police station a centre of “criminal enterprise” and a symbol of oppression for the city’s residents, the military said the building was demolished with explosives after a pre-dawn assault by around 1000 troops backed by tanks. [..]
British military spokesman Captain Tane Dunlop said the unit had been taking the law into its own hands.
“Crimes unit? That’s pretty much what it does, rather than prevent,” he said.’
`A local woman became seriously ill after unaccountably putting a lime inside a coconut, and then drinking both up, sources say.
The woman, identified as 38-year-old Tonya Northfield, is not believed to have any prior history of incidents involving large tropical fruits or citrus fruits. However, unique circumstances prompted her to put the lime in the coconut, and drink them both up.
“My brother bought a coconut,” Northfield said, “he bought it for a dime. “And I had a nice, fresh lime that had also cost only ten cents. Given the small monetary investment in the two fruits, and the fact that I wasn’t using them for anything else, it seemed only logical to put the lime in the coconut, and drink them both up.”‘
`David Lillie, 29, was arrested Sunday and booked for investigation of kidnapping and aggravated assault, said police spokesman Sgt. Andy Hill.
Police were responding to a 911 call that a woman could be heard yelling and screaming in the back of a box truck parked in a church parking lot when they stopped the truck as it was pulling away, Hill said.
The man told police there was a woman in the back of the truck. Officers found her unconscious with numerous staple wounds on her face and scalp and a staple gun next to her, Hill said.’
`A man doused himself with flammable liquid and set himself afire, apparently to protest against a California school district’s decision to change the names of winter and spring breaks to Christmas and Easter vacation.
The man suffered first-degree burns on his shoulders and arms Friday, Fire Department Capt. Garth Milam said.
He had a sign that read “(expletive) the religious establishment and KHSD,” said Kern County Sheriff’s Deputy John Leyendecker. On Thursday, the Kern High School Board of Trustees voted to change the names of the holiday breaks.
The man, whose name was not released, also set fire to a Christmas tree and flags in a public area, Milam said.’

However, I’ve never publicly told the story of the pool and why I did it. Avast!

`A documentary says French special forces had Osama bin Laden in their sights twice about three years ago but their U.S. superiors never ordered them to fire.
The French military, however, said that the incidents never happened and the report was “erroneous information.”
The documentary, due to air next year and seen by Reuters on Tuesday, says the troops could have killed the al Qaeda leader in
Afghanistan but the order to shoot never came, possibly because it took too long to request it.
“In 2003 and 2004 we had bin Laden in our sights. The sniper said ‘I have bin Laden’,” an anonymous French soldier is quoted as saying.’

`Child molester Jessy Gene Moore must have been astonished when jail deputies told him he was free to go Wednesday, the day after a judge had sentenced him to 41/2 years in prison.
For at least an hour, Moore played it cool as he worked his way through the release process — riding an inmate bus from Inverness Jail to the Justice Center downtown, signing release papers, changing into his street clothes and eventually walking out the front doors of the center and into the night.
Moore, 21, was living every inmates’ dream.
And technically, Moore did nothing illegal by failing to utter a peep, officials say.’
`A 14-year-old boy who was shot six times as he walked home remained in an area hospital in critical but stable condition on Thursday. His mother said the motive for her son’s shooting was robbery. [..]

Deal said she broke her arm trying to get to her son after he was shot. She said she held him tightly, making sure he did not die.’
`Police say a drunken P-plate driver has been caught towing a friend in a bathtub through the streets of Griffith in the NSW Riverina.

His friend, aged 30, was sitting in the porcelain bathtub dressed in overalls, a helmet and motorcycle boots.’
‘On Monday, Graef visited CNET’s Second Life bureau for a discussion about her business, how best to set up businesses in Second Life and the nature of competition there.

‘Jesus camp is a rare document. It is one of the few honest portrayals of the right wing evangelist’s movement. The documentary follows Pastor Becky Fisher and her congregation, mostly children since she’s a children’s pastor. In the film both Becky, some of the children and their parents are interviewed. The result is a very disturbing film.’

`A teenager has admitted trying to kill his 10-year-old sister by “hacking her open” because she annoyed him by waking him up when she went to the toilet.
The 17-year-old launched a frenzied knife attack on the girl at their home.
Exeter Crown Court heard how the boy said to police: “Come on, come on, I have hacked her open, I was bored,” while hitting a car with a metal spade.
The boy has been remanded to a local psychiatric unit while his condition is assessed before he is sentenced.’
`In early December, defense lawyers acting for Jose Padilla, a US citizen detained as an “enemy combatant,” released a video showing a mission fraught with deadly risk — taking him to the prison dentist. A group of masked guards in riot gear shackled his legs and hands, blindfolded him with black-out goggles and shut off his hearing with headphones, then marched him down the prison corridor.
Is Padilla really that dangerous? Far from it: his warders describe him as so docile and inactive that he could be mistaken for “a piece of furniture.” The purpose of these measures appeared to be to sustain the regime under which he had lived for over three years: total sensory deprivation. He had been kept in a blacked-out cell, unable to see or hear anything beyond it. Most importantly, he had no human contact, except for being bounced off the walls from time to time by his interrogators. As a result, he appears to have lost his mind. I don’t mean this metaphorically. I mean that his mind is no longer there.’
